Box Soccer Rules
Box Soccer Rules for the two player game
THE OBJECTIVE OF THE GAME: The game is designed to practice and refine all shooting and passing ability. However, because first time shooting has the greatest positive transfer in all other types of shots and passes all ball contact must be “One Touch”.
THE SPIRIT OF THE GAME: As always in the game of soccer, the spirit of the game is the primary concern. If there is any doubt or dispute on a point each player calls their own score with honesty and honor. Where there is a designated scorer/observer (e.g. coach) his/her opinion will be final.
THE EQUIPMENT: Ages U8 and below use a size 3, U9 to U12 use a size 4, U13 and above use a size 5. Ball should be a fully inflated outdoor ball (No Futsal balls).
# OF WALLS INVOLVED IN GAME: Players must agree, or coach must designate, a 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7 wall game. This decision should be based upon the age and proficiency of the players.
LENGTH OF GAME: Game length will be determined by the coach or the league/tournament administrator in attendance. Where players are part of a league or tournament games will be timed and the player leading when time runs out will be the winner.
THE SERVICE: Each timed round begins with a service. The service is a dead ball toe poke from the service spot. Service contact with any other part of the foot forfeits the point but the rally continues. To determine who serves first each player takes one toe poke form the service spot. The player who gets that shot nearest to either “upper90”, (either top corner), serves to begin the game.
EACH GAME IS CONTINUOUS: After the service the players alternate shots without stopping until the timed game is over
STRIKING SURFACE FOR SHOTS IN OPEN PLAY: These have to be “one touch” and can be made with any part of the foot or body.
SHOTS MUST HIT THE FRONT WALL FIRST: Every shot that hits the front wall must immediately hit one of the two side walls, or the mesh above the court and then one of the side walls, before hitting another wall. Any shot that doesn’t hit the front wall and then a side wall, or the mesh above the court and then one of the side walls, before hitting the back wall loses a point.
FRONT WALL CAN BE HIT MORE THAN ONCE WITHOUT ENDING THE POINT: In the five, six or seven wall game the front wall can be hit more than once by a player without ending the point. E.G. If in the 5, 6 or 7 wall game, the ball striker hits the front, side, back and front wall again the rally continues.
MOVING BALL: The ball must always be kicked before it stops moving. A player who allows the ball to stop before kicking it loses both the point and his/her shooting turn. At the point that the ball stops moving the point goes to the player who last kicked the ball. That player shoots again immediately from where the ball stopped.
THE NET: When the ball hits the mesh roof of the court after hitting the front wall the mesh contact counts as just as if the ball had struck a wall
WINNING A POINT: Players win or lose a point in a number of ways as follows:
The server or ball striker loses the point if the ball contacts any other wall or the overhead net prior to the front wall.
The server or ball striker wins the point if he/she strikes one shot and hits the agreed upon number of walls for an “Ace” before the opponent touches the ball.
The server or ball striker loses a point if they strike the ball and it hits them again before the opponent touches it.
The server or ball striker wins the point if the ball is hit forward and strikes the opponent before hitting a wall. Please note: The ball must not be deliberately aimed at one’s opponent. There must be a genuine effort to get the ball to the front wall. A ball played only to hit an opponent will result in the loss of the point by the offending player.
The ball can be struck with any part of the body e.g. the head, instead of the foot.
RECEIVING SERVE: During the serve the receiver must take up a position one yard or more away from the server and behind the lateral line of the center of the serving spot.
OTHER RULES: When a player is unable to strike the ball because the opponent gets in the way he/she can opt not to shoot and call for a “let”. If this occurs a “do-over” is played.
Box soccer rules for the one player game
The objective is to beat one’s PR. There are two levels of solo individual Wall Ball challenge:
Total number of shots taken without error (no pressure of a time limit).
Total number of shots taken without error in two minutes.
When alone in a Wall Ball Court the following rules apply:
The ball must strike the front wall then A side wall before you can shoot again. If the ball strikes a fourth wall the sequence ends and a new sequence begins.
The ball can only be struck from the back half of the court: If a shot is struck from the front half of the court the sequence ends and the shot count starts over.
THE SERVICE: The service must be a toe poke. This is a “point of the toe” action.
STRIKING SURFACE FOR SHOTS IN OPEN PLAY: These have to be “one touch” and can be made with any part of the foot, head or body.
SHOTS MUST HIT THE FRONT WALL FIRST FOLLOWED IMMEDIATELY BY THE SIDE WALL: Every shot must hits the front wall and one of the side walls before hitting another wall. Any shot going directly from the front wall to the back wall ends the sequence.
MOVING BALL: When the ball stops moving the attempt ends.
